FOREIGN-TRAINED DENTISTS

All candidates who have not graduated from an ADA-accredited dental school or program and have been accepted into a residency, graduate, intern or fellowship program at a North Carolina Dental School or teaching hospital offering programs in dentistry must:

  • Submit a completed application and pay the non-refundable fee of $150.00

  • Have a letter from the supervising dentist indicating the location of practice and name of the dentist

  • Submit official transcripts from their dental school.

  • Sucessfully complete written examinations (sterilization/infection control and jurisprudence)

  • Submit written confirmation that he/she has qualified for and is currently enrolled in a graduate, intern, fellowship, or residency program in the North Carolina Dental School or teaching hospital offering programs in dentistry

  • Submit written confirmation that an ad hoc committee (consisting of three associate or full professors, only one of whom represents the department in question) has evaluated his/her's didactic and clinical performance with the point of observation being not less than three months from the start of the program, and has verified that the applicant is functioning at a professional standard consistent with a dental graduate from an ADA-accredited dental school

  • Successfully complete a simulated clinical examination:

  • Submit written confirmation that the he/she has successfully completed a program of study at the training facility in:

(A) clinical pharmacology;

                        (B) Prescription writing in compliance with Federal and State laws;                                 and

(C) relevant laws and administrative procedures pertaining to the DEA;

  • Submit a written statement of the total time required to complete the graduate, intern, fellowship, or residency program, and the date that the he/she is scheduled to complete said program;

  • Successfully complete written examination(s) administered by the Board
